How to Make the Most of One Day in Bratislava

Today, we are travelling to a city that has had the privilege of being the capital of Hungary for over 200 years, but now the city has become the capital of Slovakia after the division of Czechoslovakia in 1993, and it is none other than Bratislava.

The city is unique of its kind, I mean as far as i know it is the only capital of any country which is bordering with two countries, Austria and Hungary.

It is situated on the Danube river and what I love most about the city is the amazing cafes and it is so clean and so walkable.

We will surely discuss how we can spend our whole day in Bratislava, but there is one important thing, especially if you are coming from UK: the cheap Heathrow Airport Parking is what you need at the moment, it will not only save you bucks but a good surveillance for the long stay parking, It was a nice experience with Ezybook and when I came back from Slovakia, my car was safe and sound. Now, coming back to our point of discussion.

1- Start with Bratislava Castle

You should start your day by visiting Bratislava Castle, the best part about it is that you will get a free guide from a local tour guide.

You can walk through the castle grounds, and on the rooftop, you will experience a great view of the Danube River.

While there is not so much to explore in the castle apart from a beautiful garden outside but all I can say is that from its hilltop, you can have a good view of the city.

2- Get a Photo with the “Man at work.”

Scroll down any social media app, and you'll definitely see people who have recently visited Bratislava with a photo of one of the famous statues, 'Man at Work.

So, how on earth can we miss this?

It's a bronze statue that is coming out from a manhole cover. It’s quite weird! I don’t know what he is looking for. It’s an open debate and I had asked many of the locals about it though they have difference of opinions about it, but they were agreed that the “Man at Work” is there since 1997.

I think we have wasted a lot of time here; let’s move on to the next one.

3- Bratislava Cathedral

Are you a fan of Gothic structures? Throughout my trip to Europe, I saw a lot of Gothic architecture. Here in Bratislava, there is a church named St. Martin’s Cathedral, also known as Bratislava Cathedral.

You know, this is the place where coronation ceremony was held for the new King and Queen of Hungarian empire for nearly 300 years.

Doesn’t that sound amazing?

It has been gone through several modifications over the centuries, now it is one of the popular tourist attraction in town.

4- Famous Blue Church

Insta lovers, here’s your destination of the day. The Famous Blue Church of Slovakia. It was constructed on a Nouveau style. Its sky-blue color has such a good vibe, and its interior is blue as well.

Its real name is St. Elizabeth's Church and holds a significant importance in the religious and cultural heritage of Bratislava.

5- Slovak Radio building

Let’s move to an unusual architecture, we are now at the Slovak Radio building, which is in the central part of the city. The building is up-side down pyramid shape and to be honest there is not much to explore inside the building.

Besides, it’s a functional radio station till now and you can see there is a music venue inside the building known to host concerts there.

6- Walk along the Danube River

If you are tired from the hustle and bustle of the city, there is only one escape there, which is the famous Danube River. It’s one of the major river of Europe, flowing from many countries and a very popular destination for the tourists who visit Bratislava.

While walking along the Danube River, you will enjoy not only the stunning view of the river itself but also the skyline of the city.

If you want to go some extra mile then you can take a boat ride to enjoy the views of the city from the river.

You will also see a UFO bridge that spans the Danube River. It is called a UFO bridge because of its weird UFO-like shape. It's a must-watch spot there.

Conclusion

There are many more things to explore in Bratislava, but keep in mind that the theme of our discussion was to explore the city within a day, and I believe that we already saw many historical sites of the city. What I want to discuss is the food, especially the Hungarian traditional food. Overall, I love the positive vibes of the city, and it was a good end of the day while walking at the Danube River.
